‘CorrEspoNdeNce’

Resolution: In Closing ///

So far, an American pianist and a French illustrator have helped start and shape ‘Correspondence’. Now I’d like to introduce the German bassist/composer whose contributions solidified this project into what it is today.

Rich Schwab is a kindred spirit.

After he joined the email list, we immediately began a lengthy exchange, sharing stories from on the road, our favorite musicians/composers, and our own works with one another.

One day Rich shared with me his song ‘To Absent Friends’ (which I included here). This composition spoke to me clearly using comfortable harmonic language yet unexpected variations in form.

We agreed that I should record this song and I knew it would be perfect for the collaborative work that had been steadily growing for the past several months.

However, Rich’s contributions to the project did not end there.

He graciously volunteered his time and mixed all three of the songs you’ve heard in ‘Correspondence’.

In this process, I encouraged him to try some new things and explore, to which he responded by adding some ambient textures to the songs, including the bell tolls you hear in ‘To Absent Friends’. These little touches of sound architecture really brought the project together.

To be honest, I was never planning to create this project, but I am truly grateful for Doug Makofka, Gilles Baudson, and Rich Schwab for their talents and generosity and I strongly encourage you to check out their work via links in the ‘Credits’ section below.

I truly hope that you have enjoyed ‘Correspondence’!

It has been an amazing year and I am grateful to have you along for the journey.
