Welcome to ‘the Unified Field’

/// impressions for solo piano ///

‘The Unified Field’

I get asked a lot about how I compose music … this is a big question that I can’t fully answer, but perhaps I can show you via some of my piano ‘sketches’ …

I spend a lot of time creating little ideas on the piano … most of which never become songs … ideas spring up, take shape, and dissolve back to nothingness …

‘The Unified Field’ is a collection of these ‘sketches’ which can be enjoyed as a minimalist work for solo piano AND a look into my compositional process …

every day I sit at my piano and craft an idea or two … they tend to be simple and slow, so that I can feel the ‘structure’ … I try not to imbue them with any genre-based inflections or stylistic flare … bare-bones to start … I can change anything I want later, but the initial idea MUST be strong enough to stand on its own.

As I’ve said before, most of these ideas never become songs … a few do … some immediately, others return years later to be finished … I don’t pretend to understand how or why this is …

One day I will release ‘The Unified Field’ as it’s own stand-alone work … but right now, it is unreleased … and YOU have exclusive access to explore and enjoy this minimalist work :)

‘Pavane’

One of the ideas from ‘The Unified Field’ actually did become a song !
