Mike Lorenz

//Six String Gun-slinger//

2020 was a year of change for us all. A year of adaptation and new normalcy.

One of the big changes for musicians was remote recording. Since we couldn’t meet and record together, we adapted, and seemingly overnight every musician I knew had the ability to record at home.

During this time, guitarist Mike Lorenz began tinkering with some ideas. I would send him a little idea and he would send back several takes on that idea. This process played out over many moths, but it ultimately led to the development of the trove music I will be releasing this year.

Since starting my own band in 2016 until 2020, I had favored using piano as harmonic instrument of choice. It seemed to fit how I was writing back then: a sort of modern Jazz Messengers type vibe, hard-bop with some contemporary harmonic elements.

However, through our remote exchanges during the pandemic, I started to conceive of a new sound for my music. One that centered around guitar, and as live performances returned, Mike has taken that role in the band.

This year, as I release the many songs that I’ve written since 2020, you’ll be hearing a lot of Mike’s playing (mostly guitar, but he did make his percussion debut on a song also…).

Therefore, I thought you might like to hear some of his music.

This video, features one of Mike’s new tunes, performed at Chris’ Jazz Cafe a couple months back. It was a really fun night, that just so happened to be the night of a Phillies World Series game AND an Eagles game…

We expected nobody to be there, but sometimes you get surprised, and we played to a packed house!

I hope you enjoy it and if you want to hear more of Mike’s music, from the Americana Rock-Jazz to the Avant-Garde stop by his website or Bandcamp page.
