‘Sequester’ World Premiere!
It isn’t often that you get to experience a world premiere. However, here is one, just for you!
This is a song I wrote during the pandemic lockdowns that I titled, ‘Sequester’. Despite the name and its lonely origins, it has an upbeat, joyful sound reminiscent of Clare Fischer’s ‘Pensativa’, made famous by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
(which I added to the page so you can compare if you like…)
Anyway, this recording is the FIRST TIME we played ‘Sequester’ live and I have to say I’m happy with where it is in the process. Often, as a band plays a song more and more, they get comfortable with it and start to give it a second life.
In a couple months, the kinks should iron themselves out and a more concrete arrangement will emerge. By then, we should be ready to record it. All of this is part of the life-cycle of compositions, and to be honest, very few compositions even make it to this stage.
I hoped you enjoyed these videos and my attempts to ‘pull back the curtain’ a little bit about the compositional process.
